Goodreads Choice AwardNominee for Best Graphic Novels & Comics (2021)

From #1 New York Times Bestselling, Hugo Award-winning author, Brandon Sanderson, comes DARK ONE. Paul Tanasin is haunted by visions of a dark, fantastic world. A world called Mirandus. A world he must shatter.

SOME WORLDS ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN.

From #1 New York Times bestselling, Hugo Award-winning author, Brandon Sanderson (THE MISTBORN TRILOGY, THE STORMLIGHT ARCHIVE series), along with Nathan Gooden, Jackson Lanzing, and Collin Kelly, comes DARK ONE, the first book in a series of original graphic novels from Vault Comics.

Paul Tanasin is a young man haunted by visions of a dark and fantastic world—visions he initially believes are hallucinations. But when he discovers they are prophecies from Mirandus, a world in which he's destined to become a fearsome destroyer, he'll have to embrace the fear, rise up as the Dark One, and shatter everything. DARK ONE examines the dual roles we often take on in life-the ability to be a savior as well as a destroyer.

A dramatically dark fantasy that will leave readers eager for the sequel. - KIRKUS

About The Book:

WILLOW meets SAVING PRIVATE RYAN Weaving fantasy, horror, and action adventure, END AFTER END: At the Moment of Your Death tells the genre-blending, soul-bending story about how one man’s life – and death – impacts all of existence, time after time … without end.

IT NEVER ENDS

Life is nothing if not a series of endings. School. Jobs. Friendships. Love. Walter Willem's death was fast and unexpected. His was an unremarkable life. So, how is it that his story continues as cannon fodder in an endless war waged against an insatiable darkness hellbent on consuming all of existence?

Walt Willem is dead. When he awakens in the End After End he must survive being dropped face-first into the midst of an endless war. Unsatisfied by the artistic pursuits of his former life, Walt believes he's been summoned to the End After End to collect a set of ancient relics and reignite the power of a long dormant warrior who will vanquish the all-consuming Ulc.

At last Walt believes, he will finally be fulfilled. Walt is going to learn to redefine what it is to be a hero. Being a hero doesn’t mean saving the world all at once. A hero can be forged in small steps, taking the tiniest measures – the smallest acts resonate throughout the universe, changing the course of lives. Over, and over, and over again…

Volume 1 collects issues #1-5

From acclaimed writers David DB Andry (Resonant) and Tim Daniel (The Plot, Fissure, Walking Dead: The Survivor's Guide) and in-demand artist Sunando C comes the story of one seemingly unremarkable man – whose afterlife explodes with the impact it sets in motion.

“…a really original, unique take on the afterlife.” – The Beat

“’End after End ‘ … is a barebones fantasy survival story that thrusts its protagonist into a terrifying situation with little pretense and even less preparation, and does a great job of making the reader feel just as confused and as stressed as its protagonist.” – Multiversity Comics

One day, she starts noticing little things that make her feel different—her dad makes her sit in the middle seat; her brothers play soccer better than she does; her mom doesn't buy her favorite peanut butter. About The Book:

"This is a very entertaining novel, with effortless writing, naturalistic dialogue, and a good dose of humor. On the surface, it's a tale set in the glittering, frantic world of a touring musical act. Dig deeper, however, and you'll find a story about flawed, damaged characters searching for the light that will lead them out of the darkness that has been created for, or by, themselves." - Wendy Lee, author of The Art of Confidence, Across a Green Ocean, and Happy Family (Booklist Top Ten First Novels of 2008).

Sixteen-year-old Geri Randall's life is turned upside down when her late sister's fiance, Dez Deacon, a washed-up rock star, is named her guardian. Whisked away from the only life she knew and taken on a rock and roll tour, Geri is initially desperate to win Dez's approval. That desire hits a sour note when Dez's treatment of her becomes too much to bear. What ensues is a battle of wills between her and her temperamental guardian, a collision course that will push Geri to do the unthinkable to get what she wants.

Limited physical books available (US addresses only) eBooks available. There will be images for Instagram stops.

About The Book:

Twelve-year-old Bobby Dalton doesn't want to grow up. All his life, he has relied on the imaginary games of childhood with his best friends Joe and Max to get him through the tough times. But this all changes when his Seventh-Grade class buries a time capsule to commemorate the end of the 1980s. Now Bobby is being haunted by visions: ghostly doppelgangers of himself, his friends, and others. He calls them "déjà view." Are these visions real, or has his imagination finally gotten away from him? And if they're real, what do they want? Bobby needs to figure this all out to survive his childhood…and his life.

From the author of the award-winning Danger Peak, Déjà View is a darkly funny coming-of-age dramedy with a sci-fi twist, cranked up to eleven. But even more, it's at once a pulse-pounding thrill ride and a haunting portrait of paranoia, mental illness, and the unbearable sadness of growing up.

Admiral José Gaspar of the Spanish Royal Navy had it all: the love of his life, Joséfa de Mayorga; the confidence of the King; and a plan to become one of the most successful merchants in all of Spain. But when a jilted former lover accuses him of stealing the crown jewels, he escapes Sevilla only to realize he's duped into piracy, further staining his legacy. Gaspar continues down an immoral path he works relentlessly to resist. The dream life he yearned for with Joséfa slowly slips away, his reputation far too ruined to be worthy of her honor.

After having her beloved ripped from her life, Joséfa and Gaspar's friends work tirelessly to clear his name to no avail. When fate finally hands her a chance, she sets sail to find José, but fate is both friend and foe. Joséfa discovers the man she lost is different from the viscous pirate she rescues from certain death.

When infamous pirate hunter Lieutenant Kearny of the USS Enterprise sets his sights on the new pirate, Gaspar must decide between a dark and perilous addiction to piracy or living a subdued life in the shadows. About The Book:

I do not have the synopsis for this one yet and it can be read as a stand alone but here's the synopsis from book 1.

From the award winning video game designer Brian Freyermuth comes a tale of murder, demons and ancient trickster gods.

Come visit the urban sprawl of Seattle as retired detective Nick St. James navigates a world where the power of the supernatural world comes from the very belief of the humans around them…

You can run all you want, but the game's in your blood. And blood never forgets…

Nick St. James was born different. His extraordinary gifts have saved him time and time again, but they couldn't save the one thing he loved most: his wife.

Now he just wants to forget his old life, but more importantly, he wants to forget the magical underworld that lives beneath the "real" world. A place where a man's faith can determine the very fabric of reality. Where ancient forgotten gods walk hidden among us, and angels and demons fight for our very souls.

But nothing stays hidden forever. Nick's peaceful world is ripped apart when a demon slaughters his ex-partner and marks him for death. Now he must use all his gifts to find the one who summoned the nightmarish creature, but more importantly, he needs to find the one thing he lost long ago.

Himself.

About The Book:

The final, dramatic installment in Elodie Harper's Sunday Times bestselling Wolf Den Trilogy.

Amara's journey has taken her far; from enslavement in Pompeii's wolf den brothel to her new life as a high-powered courtesan in Rome, but her story is not over yet. While Amara plays for power in Rome's imperial palace, those dearest to her remain in Pompeii. But it is 79 CE, and mighty Mount Vesuvius is about to make itself known . . .

Readers of Jennifer Saint's Ariadne, Natalie Haynes books like A Thousand Ships and Stone Blind, and other novels based on Ancient Roman and Greek mythology—as well as fans of inspiring feminist historical fiction exploring the worlds of Ancient Greece and Rome—will love Harper's acclaimed Wolf Den Trilogy. Anyone looking for a book that centers women’s perspectives on the historic events of Pompeii will be captivated by Amara’s story, which starts with the first book in the trilogy, The Wolf Den, a Barnes & Noble Our Monthly Fiction Pick, a Waterstones Fiction Book of the Month, and a critically acclaimed UK bestseller.

Complicating her subterfuge is a mysterious outlaw whose small moments of kindness contradict the blood he has on his hands, making Theo wonder who, exactly, is conning who. But when Rein arrives all is in chaos. People with fairy blood are turning up dead. The Forum Magicae is undone and the Curators sieged.

And in another world altogether, where Earth is just a legend, a girl named Niena and a cursed lyre hold the key to saving both realms. Or destroying them.

This Nina R Schluntz Fantasy tour is a little different, there are 2 versions of the books one is YA and one is adult so you can pick which one to review. About The Book:

Banished from Earth, a six-headed demon god adjusts to a world where he is bound by no rules and where even the dead have magic he can consume and control.

Tiamat is a demon god from Earth now banished to a world full of magic and dragon. Lucky for him, his dragon form is a six-headed dragon. The magic here is not like on Earth, it comes from dragons, not from souls.

To be a god on this world, he must learn how to harness the power of the dragons. So, pretending to be less than he is, he joins the Magesterium to train as a mage. He masters this ability easily but is paired with a dragon who was once a human. Her dragon mate has died and if he doesn’t pair with her, the other dragons will kill her.

Her magic is weak, but Tiamat can fix that. He can show this world that the dragons banished from their clans can find a new purpose, just like him. Until his past catches up and demons from Earth arrive to take a soul from Tiamat that they feel is theirs. Turns out, necromancy is easy to do on this world and the other demons have no qualms about using it.

To defeat the other demons, Tiamat must give up the new life he’s found, and become the god he was destined to be.

This story is told from multiple viewpoints and is available in both an all-ages friendly adaptation (Mage & Magic) and the original (Mages and Mates) which has a heavier focus on romance.

Gobbledy is smarter than he seems and is lost on planet Earth. Before long, Gobbledy takes Dexter, Dougal, and their best friend Fi on an adventure of friendship, family, and loss—one that requires them all to stay out of trouble, protect Gobbledy from a shadowy group called the Planetary Society, and prepare for their school’s Winter Extravaganza Play, where Dexter has to be a dreaded Gingerbread Man.

Gobbledy is a fun-filled holiday story that adds up to two brothers, three friends, unlimited jars of peanut butter, a ketchup factory, and one little alien far, far from home.

In her existential crisis era.

Easy-going Megan Riley is hiding something. Years ago, a family tragedy left her with a fortune —and terrible survivor’s guilt. Even her inner circle doesn’t know her secrets. But her friends need an angel investor for their new app, and Megan has the cash. She’s thrilled to make their dreams come true, so long as she remains out of the spotlight. If only it were that easy.

Giving uptight vibes.

Straight-laced Luke Paris is in Nashville to market a new dating app. It’s a killer opportunity. Except he didn’t realize a friend group came attached. Luke is lousy at socializing and avoids small talk, but the enigmatic Megan immediately captures his attention. Fascinated and frustrated, he aches to know the authentic her. If only he could loosen up and get his foot out of his mouth.

Chat me up, baby.

On paper, Megan and Luke don’t match. Online, however, inhibitions vanish and “types” get redefined. The connection is real—and real hot. Can their steamy secret romance thrive IRL? Will dynamite digital chemistry survive its collision course with reality? Or will everything blow up in their faces?

Excerpt

There was another obstacle we hadn’t seen. It was a sandbag tied to a rope that you had to haul about 20 feet into the air. Melody and Nick were nearly done. No one else was around. “This is hard when you’re all wet,” Melody huffed to Megan.

“That’s what he said,” Megan and Nick shouted in unison, then broke down laughing. Nick laughed so hard, he lost his grip on the bag he and Melody were hoisting together. It slipped, and Melody nearly flew into the air with the rope.

“Sorry, sorry,” Nick gasped as the bag hit the ground with a thud.

I turned to Megan. “Pull. They’re distracted.”

Melody wasn’t wrong, poor choice of words as they may have been. Megan and I each tried the bag before we figured out that wrapping the rope around us made a difference.

“Wait. I have an idea.” Megan braced her feet on the railing in front of us and grabbed several feet higher than I was holding so that she was standing on the rail. “Get ready to fall backward, okay?”

Before I could ask, her shoulders crashed into my chest. My arms wrapped around her instinctively as we fell to the ground with a mutual grunt. At least the rope broke our fall.

She lay on top of me for a second and then sat up. I was still on my back, but I heard her say, “Bend your knees.” As soon as I did, she hooked her feet under my ankles. Then, she began to haul.

I grabbed her hips and planted my feet. Even so, the weight of the bag nearly lifted her up. “Hold on, I’m almost there,” she gritted out as she reached hand over hand.

So my job was to make sure her ass stayed pinned to my lap.

I probably would’ve enjoyed it more if I hadn’t been so aware that we were slightly beating the other two. Or been mortified. Or both.

If you have any other post ideas feel free!

Why is Luke neurodivergent?

Luke is depicted as an undiagnosed ASD Level 1 in Just Your Type. In the first iteration of this story, written years ago, he was simply uptight and reserved through most of the book.

Since then, I have learned much more about neurodivergence and how it manifests. I realized that it made perfect sense for Luke to process the world differently. It explains certain compulsions (like the hatred of small talk) and why he holds back from Megan.

Neurodivergence is a difficult thing to discuss because it is so broad and unique. It is important to be aware of the risk of generalizing. For example, Autism is a condition that can be very mild—or completely debilitating. However, understanding that neurodivergence truly is a spectrum can help many people find answers to why they process the world differently.

I based Luke’s character on two people I know who are self-diagnosed as neurodivergent. I deliberately avoided depicting him as having a specific condition. That was not the goal. The goal was to show a man who loved deeply but expressed it differently. Someone who knew he didn’t do things like “everyone else” and often “stood in his own way,” but who nonetheless had found ways to navigate life and make it work for him.

I want to thank the people who inspired Luke. They know who they are. Thank you for loving me and showing me the brilliance of you. I’m a better person because you both helped me look at the world in new, fascinating ways.

I also want to thank Sandy for reading this with an eye on Luke. For coaching me to make him more vibrant and real. And, as above, for loving me and showing me the brilliance of you. I am absolutely better off in this life because of our dear friendship and all I continue to learn from you.
